SECTION III Essay

Throughout the centuries Gallifrey maintained the English language in our culture. Our children begin knowing the language at the age of 2 by gaining it from their parents. It's the parent's responsibly to teach their children. Without the language passing throughout the generations the language will disappear. As our children grow, and go off to space to protect Gallifrey our tardis, mobile time machine, help us understand all different alien languages. The tardis translates the alien language, and vice versa so all we have to know is basic English. While our children are the ages 1 weeks to 12 months the child speaks baby talk, but us Time Lords understand baby talk. However the babies do not understand us until they develop the language. By the time we teach our children our language we also begin to teach them to read English. We also have our own secret language in case aliens take over our land so we can find a way to escape. We teach our children the secret language for their future, but we enforce them to know English. Majority of our children are fast learners it takes about no more than 3 months to develop English fluently. We are the most intelligence species in the universe because of our fast learning. There is no stage of language once the language is taught we have no need to learn more English.

Before the parents were responsible teaching the language to their children it was by law that all 2 year olds had to go to 65 Station, language camp, in order to learn English the right way. After three months the children were released from camp to return to their families. Until Gallifrey passed the Child Home law letting the children to be taught at home. After the change our language has been taught different. We use different words from each other, but we are able to understand the point the person is trying to make. Our teenagers have a shorten down our language making it easier for them to communicate with each other. In result they lack on English vocabulary which tends to change our language. By our teens shorten our words the older generations do not understand their new language.

In Gallifrey we express our inner feelings with body gestures with one another. When the weather is below zero degrees we can't talk to one another, so we point for directions. Also if asked a question we say yes raising our eyebrows, and when saying no we push our eyebrows toward the middle of our forehead. When we feel excitement we hug one another even if we don't know the person. We believe giving each other encouragement will help our community. Helping our neighbors will get things done faster and easier by using our language. Being friendly to our neighbors or friends we greet them with a hand-hug expressing how happy we are to see them. If we aren't happy seeing our friend we greet them with a handshake. While greeting the person we find it disrespectful if losing eye contact with the individual. We must keep eye contact at all time it's a sign of respect because we are giving full attention to the person. If we feel anger we use our fingers for horns on our heads. Children tend to use the horns the adults make an angry face to notify the person or thing that we are angry. When apologizing we held our hands together to show forgiveness, and if not we are not forgiven the next step is to kneel to the person until forgiveness. If we still haven't been forgiven we get up from kneeling place our hand behind our head expressing awkwardness and walk away. When feeling sick we place our hands on our faces, and giving a sad face. We have specific signs of sickness. Our main two sicknesses are the fever and allergies. When having a fever we let our parents know by placing our hand on our forehead. With allergies we pinch our nose signifying our allergies are killing up, and needs to be taken care of. Calling a female non-verbally we raise our pinky up, and a male with our pinky and index fingers. When trying to accomplish a task Time Lords flex their arm while place the other arm on bicep expressing we accept and defeat the challenge. Also is used to motivate our people into hard challenges. If we think the person will not be able to succeed in the challenge we form an "X" with our arms. With our personal space with strangers we need 3 feet of space unless the relationship is gaining trust then the space decreases.

New phrases that our youth has developed is "Bow ties are cool" which meanings this food is great. Another well known is "Don't blink" refers to best song ever. Our youth take words from English and transform it to a whole different meaning. "Bad wolf" signifies if you're free tomorrow night. Using this slang makes our language unique by using different words to describe our point we are trying to address.Every new generation form slang for their generation which makes it difficult from other generation to get the message. During the time we have time for ourselves we explore different planets to understand their views and beliefs. Also to see if they need help with their communities. If we don't feel like traveling we explore the fire forest or spend the day out near a lake to relax. Most of us have boats to travel through the rivers. Time Lords have different types of boats for specific tasks. For catching fish the boat we use is the hanfoad, juedus, or tehjio. In order to know which boat to use for fishing is by the size of fish we're going to catch. For taking a stroll down the river we only use the dasit, but if transporting cargo we use the stellic since it can hold up to three tons. In Gallifrey it tends to receive heavy rainfall toward the spring. When it rain it might be light rain as Time Lords call it tizzle. If its more than tizzling than its fizzling. When the rain is pouring when say it's zizzling. At the head quarter it usually zizzling which we don't mind since is good for our crops. Time Lords have different types of tardis. We have the police box which is the only one, the card which is a phone booth, and the last one is the light which is a blue mailbox. With these tardis Time Lords can travel through time and space. Since we have two suns we also have ways to describe the scenery of the sun during the day. Once the sun rises its called sky of fire because the sky looks as like it's on fire. Around noon when the sun heats up Gallifrey we say it's burning of the roots. Then when the sun sets down it's refereed to night of fire describing the firing sun is finally going away. As we grow we buy different sizes of beds there are three sizes our beds. The first bed we get is our baby bed which is named bade. After our fifth birthday we get our jr size bed called juni, and we keep this bed until our 17th day of birth. After our 17th we keep our last bed until we die which is called olui. We pass our old beds to our family or neighbors so it won't go to waste. Because of the different ways the called certain objects makes us different from other planets. Having a unique way of describing our weather. Only the Time Lords will understand what we are trying to say with our varies ways to describe our surroundings. Gallifrey's language treats everyone equal there is no words to describe the poor or rich. Without this type of language it maintains the economy stable.

Throughout Gallifrey's language it has developed it's culture in significance ways. Treating one another with respect helps us to be united with each other. Helping our people to help our society. When it comes to food our language helps us hunt without saying a word. By having movement with our eyebrow and pointing for directions makes us succeed during the hurt. Metaphors used in our language are "The sky is a blanket of fire" describing how the sky red the sky looks. "The Doctor is a night owl" meaning the doctor stays up all night watching over everyone. "The Memento Mori is the light of life" since the flower gives off a great rich juicy taste its describing how good the flower is. "Don't let the cats out" because cats in our culture are signified as honor if the cat gets out means the respect of the owners cat is decreasing. "Your brain is the universe" this means the person has great knowledge than any other person. With these metaphors it shapes our culture of what we believe. As we depend in the Memento Mori to give us the best juice of the galaxy, express how we believe other have great knowledge, and sometimes we know our respect changes towards people because of their actions. Because of this it shapes our views and values toward our society.

Language forms our culture. We can't have a culture without understanding each other. The values of this project has changed the view of language ad culture. If community doesn't have both they can't have any. Understanding how language and culture bond together making this tie unbreakable. When learning a new language we also learn a new culture. While studying the new language we can see the similarities and differences toward our culture. In order to learn the language we have to have some background on the culture to understand their values and beliefs. Without understanding the culture of a new place it will be hard to understand the language. Knowing why the culture greet in a different way gives the greet a whole view other than the words. Language reflects a person beliefs and history of their culture. Learning the behavior, norms, and values sets a new perspective towards our knowledge. We live day by day in our culture that we were born in, and each day we use language that has been taught to us whenever we were small. Culture and language are used together on daily bases reflecting the people we are.
